Rosa von Praunheim (bourgeois Holger Bernhard Bruno Mischwitzky, born: Holger Radtke) is an internationally known German film director, author and activist of the LGBTQ movement. He is considered an important representative of postmodern German film and is also attributed to author and avant-garde filmmakers. He has established himself permanently with documentaries.
Von Praunheim held a professorship for film directing at the Film University Babelsberg until 2006. He was also a lecturer at various art and film schools, u. a. at the German Film and Television Academy, the Zurich University of the Arts and the San Francisco Art Institute.
Von Praunheim has been a member of the Academy of the Arts, Film and Media Art Section since 2009, which he headed from May 2015 to May 2018. He is also a member of the German Film Academy.
Von Praunheim lives with his partner Oliver Sechting in Berlin.
