South African Airways, or SAA for short - formerly also Suid-Afrikaanse Lugdiens - SAL in Afrikaans - is the largest national and international South African airline based in Kempton Park and based at O.R. Tambo near Johannesburg. It is a member of the Star Alliance aviation alliance and cooperates with the regional companies Airlink and South African Express Airways.
The airline has been under voluntary bankruptcy administration since December 4, 2019. The discontinuation of the airline and the simultaneous establishment of a new state airline was confirmed on May 1, 2020.
