Shintaro Katsu

Best known for playing Zatoichi, Shintaro Katsu (29 November 1931 – 21 June 1997) was a Japanese actor, singer, producer, and director. Katsu was the son of kabuki performer Katsutoji Kineya, and younger brother of actor Tomisaburo Wakayama (Lone Wolf and Cub). In the 1960s, Katsu starred simultaneously in the Akumyo film series, the Hoodlum Soldier series, and the Zatoichi series.

Katsu played Zatoichi in 25 films between 1962 and 1973, a television series, and a final film in 1989.
