Bundesministerium für Unterricht, Kunst und Kultur (BMUKK)

  • Founded: (Vienna, Austria)
  • Defunct: (Vienna, Austria)

The Austrian federal administration, known as the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (BMBWK for short, the Ministry of Education or at the time the Ministry of the Future) was primarily responsible for the school system, scientific research and teaching (universities, university hospitals, universities of applied sciences, library systems), museums and the Monument protection.

The ministry was created in 2000, in the first two months after the arrival of the Schüssel I government, through the reorganization of the Federal Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs (BMUK) and the Federal Ministry of Science and Transport (BMWV).
In 2007, under the Gusenbauer government, it was divided into the Federal Ministry of Education, Art and Culture (BMUKK, Ministry of Education) and the Federal Ministry of Science and Research (BMWF, Ministry of Science).
